The Academy that wins the division will receive a DESERT QUEST Championship trophy, and be crowned the overall DESERT QUEST Champion.

DESERT
QUEST CHAMPIONSHIP : General Event Rules and Regulations (Jiu Jitsu and Grappling): 1.
Takedowns and
Throws – Land on top in Guard, Half-Guard or Side mount 2 points 2.
Sweep with legs (from half guard or full guard) 2
points 3.
Knee on Chest – must show proper posture and control 2
points 4.
Guard Pass to Side Mount – must fully clear opponents
arms and legs 3 points 5.
Mount Position / Back Mount Position – must have hooks
in 4 points 6.
Points will be accumulated during the entire length of the
match 7.
Referee will signal all points verbally as well as by hand
signals to ensure all points are counted 8.
Match Durations:
a.
Kids – 3 Minutes
b.
Teens – 3 Minutes
c.
Adults – 4 Minutes
d.
Overtime – in case of tie with points at the end of
the duration of the match, the first person to score will
win (sudden
death) 9.
Leg Locks –
allowed for all adult divisions, strait ankle locks and knee bars
permitted, no twisting leg locks or figure fours allowed 10.
No Reaping of the
Knee – No heel hooks or calf cranks 11.
Required Uniform
for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu – A clean kimono with sleeves no shorter
than four fingers from wrist, any color is acceptable but tops and
bottoms need to match. Gi
pants required 12.
No Slamming Allowed
– Clean technique must be performed to escape guard positions and
submissions. Also you must deliver your opponent to the mat, know
dangerous aerial throws 13.
No Infectious
Diseases Allowed – Competitors with any of the following
infections will not be allowed to compete
a.
Herpes – active cold sores b.
Fungal Infections
– ringworm c.
Staph/ Viral – Chicken pox, etc. 14.
General Cleanliness
– Come to the tournament with clean and trimmed finger and toe
nails. Competitors with
offensive odors, or ill smelling equipment will be refunded and asked to
leave 15.
Scoring Points
– To gain points in any position you must have clear control for 3
seconds 16.
No Disrespecting
Referees – Zero tolerance in regards to disrespecting, threatening
with physical or verbal abuse towards event staff.
If this occurs the competitor will be disqualified and escorted
from the building 17.
Referees Decisions
are Final – the staff is well versed in many styles of ground
fighting and are considered professionals.
They are to be respected at all times and will have an
environment free of threats and pressure. 18.
Penalties –
an official warning will be granted the first offense, the second and
third offenses will result in points lost, and if a fourth offense
occurs the competitor is disqualified
a.
Stalling –
backing out of the guard, butt scoot, and fleeing the mats
b.
No Grabbing of the
Uniform in No Gi - No
points or position change if breached
c.
No covering the
mouth to smother your opponent
d.
No smashing the
face with any body part 19.
Disqualifications –
for any of the following techniques that cause submission or injury
a.
No Neck Cranks or
Cervical Locks (except adult divisions)
b.
Intentionally
throwing a competitor on his head or neck
c.
Missing your match (the
staff will attempt to call your match three times)
d.
Bad Sportsmanship,
harassment of staff, and intent to injure
e.
Fleeing the ring 20.
Ways to Win a Match
–
a.
Tapout Submission –
ends the match immediately when you signal submission
b.
Verbally – If
you cannot tap or yell during a submission the referee has the authority
to end the match
c.
Points – your
score is tracked during the entire match
d.
Ref Stoppage /
Injury – if a competitor cannot continue due to injury or the
referee determines that the submission has caused serious injury Sanctioning
